The Experts

My name is Tom Chowanec. I have been a personal trainer for over 24 years. For over 20 years, I have been involved in youth athletics. Scott Blatt, owner, and founder of Body Logic Sports Therapy hired me in 2003 to work under the direction of physical therapists and sports chiropractors. This is where my true education took place. My passion was rewarded by the confidence of Scott Blatt to help with the strength and conditioning programs at Westlake High School. In 2009 I received Scott Blatt’s blessing to start my own Fitness and Sports Performance Training Center. For over 10 years I built a very successful gym that produced hundreds of athletes who have earned D1, D3 scholarships. Many became professional athletes, a few became Olympians and World Champions.

I am proud and honored to bring my experience and training system to Carson Valley. My training system has been evolving thanks to new data. I am always researching in the best interests of our clients and athletes. When it comes to youth athletes, it is critical to understand they are still developing. Their bones are still soft which allows them to grow. Training them on appropriate surfaces is very important to prevent overuse injuries such as Osgood-Schlatter’s. Likewise, making sure they have a proper training system of frequency, duration, and load while also allowing adequate rest sets the athlete up for success. Our primary goal is injury prevention, while the athletes’ is performance, and naturally, it is a relationship that works together.

My name is Savannah Sumners. I have been involved in athletics my whole life from the athlete and coaching perspective. Growing up, I was nationally ranked in competitive swimming. After years of dealing with a shoulder injury, I had a capsular reconstruction at 16 years old. After surgery, my passion for swimming wanned and I began to play tennis more seriously. After a few years, I earned a full tennis scholarship to a college in south Alabama. During my swimming and tennis careers, I was proud to coach for the teams I once was an athlete for. My upbringing of competing in sports at high levels will forever influence my coaching style… I know firsthand the dedication, determination, and grit it takes to compete and be successful. Likewise, after dealing with such a serious injury at a young age, I am extremely passionate about injury prevention in athletes.

Now as a wife and mother, fitness plays a huge roll in my life as an active, outdoorsy person. On any given weekend you will likely find my family and I playing in the mountains. We enjoy camping, outdoor rock climbing, hiking, trail running, skiing, and snowboarding. Without time spent in the gym, I wouldn’t be able to perform these hobbies as easily as I do. I am passionate about movement and taking care of your body so it will take care of you! Whatever your goals and passions, I can help you train for the life that brings you happiness and satisfaction.
